SCHENECTADY, NY – The Oneonta State men's lacrosse team fell 16-6 to Union College at Frank Bailey Field on Wednesday. The Red Dragons (0-2) were led by senior Scott Kellman (Suffern, Suffern) who recorded one goal and seven shots in the game. The Dutchmen (1-1) were led by three goals from sophomore Robert Young, his first three tallies of the season.

Union jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first quarter on Young's first goal of the game with two Oneonta players serving holding penalties. The Red Dragons knotted the score at 1 apiece at 5:04 into the first quarter of play as senior Brian Kollar's (East Islip, East Islip) shot hit the back of the net.

Oneonta would take the lead at 14:09 of the second quarter on sophomore Mike Salerno (West Babylon/West Babylon)'s (West Babylon, West Babylon) goal to go up 2-1, but Union scored eight unanswered goals, seven in the second period to take a commanding 9-2 lead as Young scored for a second goal of the net.

The Red Dragons made a huge push to close the gap with three of the next four goals in their favor, as Kellman, senior Tom Kelly (Lake Peekskill, Putnam Valley) and junior Joseph Stroessenreuther (Bethpage, Bethpage) each found the net to cut deficit to 10-5 heading into the final quarter of play.

Union would run off six straight goals in the fourth quarter to give Union a 16-5 lead with 5:01 to play. Senior Kris Wodiska (Lake Rokonkoma, Sachem North) scored the final goal of the contest at 1:45 looking for the comeback but the Red Dragons came up short.

Senior Sean Reynolds (Bethpage, Bethpage) made 15 saves for the Red Dragons while Union's Sean Aaron turned away eight shots in the matchup.

The Red Dragons will return to action this Friday, March 11th when they will head to Troy, NY to face Rensselaer. The game begins at 4pm.
