BUFFALO, N.Y.—Three players scored in double figures, but the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell at Buffalo State 75-62 tonight in SUNYAC action. The loss for the Red Dragons was its fourth straight as they are now 6-14 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
Senior
Troy Talbot (Brooklyn, The School for Legal Studies) led a trio of seniors for Oneonta with 17 points. Classmates
Derek Hahn (Youngsville, Sullivan West) and
Shane Gillette (Hurley, Kingston) scored 15 and 14 points respectively. Hahn also added a game high 16 rebounds.
A three-point basket by senior
Brian Hooks (Cohoes, Shaker) gave Oneonta an early 7-2 lead in the contest. Buffalo State battled back to take a 13-11 lead at the 9:28 mark of the first half on a three-pointer by Chris Cartwright. Cartwright led all scorers in the game with 26 points.
The two teams took turns at gaining the lead back before Buffalo State grabbed the final lead of the opening half at 27-23.
Buffalo State created some breathing room over a four minute span early in the second half to increase its lead to 12 points at 44-32. A lay-up by Ahmed Nagaya capped a 13-3 run by the Bengals.
Oneonta battled its way back and cut Buffalo State's lead to two points at 49-47 on a pair of free throws by Talbot. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Red Dragons would be for the remainder of the contest as the Bengals put the game away with a 25-8 run over a seven minute span to give them a 73-55 lead with 1:52 left in the contest.
Oneonta will play at Fredonia tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
