ONEONTA, N.Y.--In another battle of the Red Dragons, it was rival SUNY Cortland that came out on top in women's tennis today 6-3.  The win for Cortland (6-3/2-1 SUNYAC) secured second place in the East Division while the loss for Oneonta (7-3/1-2 SUNYAC) put them in third place in the East.

Both teams will now prepare for the conference tournament, which begins on Friday afternoon at Eastside Racquet Club in Manlius, N.Y.  Cortland will take on Fredonia, the #3 seed in the West at 2pm while Oneonta will face Brockport, who is the #2 seed in the West at 6pm.

The host Red Dragons held a 2-1 advantage after the completion of the doubles matches.  Junior Danielle Browarski (Colonie/Colonie) (Colonie/Colonie) and sophomore Lauren Skolnick (Sayville/Sayville) (Sayville/Sayville) won at first doubles while the duo of freshman Brynn Sussman (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) and junior Christina Wlodarczyk (Avoca/Avoca Central) (Avoca/Campbell-Savona) took third doubles.

Junior Loraine Jelinek (Homer/Home School) and Gabriela Medina (Rock Hill/Monticello) won at second doubles for Cortland to earn its point.

The visitors ended up winning five of the six singles matches to take home the victory.  Jelinek defeated Browarski at first singles, 6-0, 0-6, 6-4.  Seniors Alyssa Tretter (Batavia/Batavia) and Stephanie DiCapua (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach), sophomore Jean Martinez (Homer/Homer) and senior Megan Bagg (Lake Placid/The Northwood School) won at third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles respectively.

Oneonta's lone singles win cam by Sussman at second singles in straight sets over Medina, 6-3, 6-3.
