The Oneonta State men's soccer team captured its first outright SUNYAC regular season title today when it defeated Fredonia on the road 4-2. The Red Dragons finished its conference schedule with an 8-0-1 record to finish ahead of Brockport, who finished 8-1.
With the regular season title in hand, Oneonta (12-2-2), which is unbeaten in its last 14 games, earned the No. 1 overall seed, home field throughout and a first round bye for the upcoming SUNYAC tournament, which begins next Saturday with first round games. This is the second straight year that Oneonta has earned the top seed for the conference tournament. Last season the Red Dragons finished in a tie for first place, but received the No. 1 seed because of head-to-head with Fredonia.
Oneonta will not play again until its first tournament game, which is Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 1pm versus the winner of the Plattsburgh/Potsdam game being played at Potsdam next Saturday.

Fredonia cut Oneonta's lead to one goal five minutes later when Ryan Smith tallied with assists from Jake Parsons and Luke Tylutki.
Coming out of halftime, Oneonta held its 2-1 lead until the 56th minute when Tyler Williams converted a penalty kick for the Blue Devils to tie the score at two apiece.
The Red Dragons tacked on two more goals within five minutes of each other to secure the win. Junior Jean Arenas (White Plains/White Plains) scored an unassisted goal to give Oneonta a 3-2 lead before classmate
