The Oneonta State field hockey team made its early goal stand up today in a 1-0 win versus SUNY Geneseo. The victory for Oneonta (10-5/4-2 SUNYAC) secured second place for the regular season and the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC tournament that will be hosted by Cortland during the weekend of Nov. 4-5.
Today's game-winner was scored by freshman
Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) (Greene/Greene) in the seventh minute with an assist from junior
Ashley Morgan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley). Morgan was able to get a pass across the circle where Day took a shot that scooted between the pads of Geneseo goalie, Caitlyn Dowell.
Despite being outshot (13-6) and out-cornered (15-4) Oneonta was able to hold off the charging Blue Knights for the remaining 63 minutes en route to the win. Freshman
Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) (Liverpool/Liverpool) made six saves in the game in recording the shutout.
Oneonta will play its final home game of the season this Wednesday night when they host city rival Hartwick beginning at 7pm.
