NEW PLATZ, N.Y.—Senior
Shane Gillette (Hurley, Kingston) scored 20 points to lead three players in double figures tonight, but the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell on the road to New Paltz 78-68. Gillette made 7-of-8 free throws and had three steals in the game as well.
The game was tight through the first eight minutes of tonight's SUNYAC contest. New Paltz (9-5/5-3) led 17-16 before running off 13 unanswered points over a five minute span that increased its lead to 30-16.
New Paltz built its lead to 38-22 before Oneonta (5-10/4-4) closed the opening half with seven straight points to cut the Hawks' lead to 38-29 entering halftime.
Oneonta trailed 55-46 at the 12:17 mark of the second half, but ran off 10 unanswered points to take a 56-55 lead. Senior
Brian Hooks (Cohoes, Shaker) capped the run with a three-pointer with 9:43 remaining.
New Paltz came right back and drained a three-pointer of its own to regain the lead for good. After a pair of free throws by Gillette made the score 60-58 in favor of the hosts, New Paltz opened up its lead again to 10 points with 2:13 left in the game. The Red Dragons cut the lead in half one minute later on another pair of made free throws by Gillette, but that would be its final points of the game.

Troy Talbot (Brooklyn, The School for Legal Studies) and junior
Terrence Parker (Queens, John Adams) joined Gillette in double figures with 15 & 10 points respectively.
Oneonta will play host to the rival Red Dragons of Cortland this coming Tuesday, Jan. 25 beginning at 8:00 p.m.
