NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team opened its 2010 SUNYAC schedule with a 2-1 loss at New Paltz this afternoon. The Hawks' Dave Gardiner scored two goals to lead the hosts, who raised its record to 4-3 overall. The loss for Oneonta dropped them to 3-2-2.
Gardiner struck first in the 34th minute when freshman midfielder Max Kornstein found him for the score. Four minutes later, junior defender Corey Perkins found Gardiner to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage.
The lone goal on the day for the Red Dragons came in the 89th minute by
Jonathan Kowalski (Glens Falls) off an assist from
Ian Tenzer (Mahopac).
New Paltz finished with a 7-5 margin in corners and Oneonta held a 19-15 advantage in shots.
Oneonta keeper
Jesse Dobson (Holtsville) allowed two goals while saving three shots in 45 minutes of play.
Maxwell Siegelman (Roslyn Heights) took over the reins in the second half compiling three saves.
Junior goalkeeper Thomas Viscardi boasted nine stops for the blue and orange.
The Red Dragons return to action on Friday when they host Fredonia for a SUNYAC match beginning at 4 p.m.
