Oneonta, NY – Oneonta men's soccer wasted no time getting back on the field defeating Rensselaer today 2-1 in a well fought victory.

Oneonta got its chance from the very beginning with two shots in the first eight minutes of play. In the 23rd minute Dan Scott (Salt Point) passed across the field to sophomore Eric Fortier (Pleasant Valley) who redirected the ball and fired it into the back of the net to record his first goal of the season to put the Red Dragons ahead 1-0 going into the half.

In the second half, with goalkeeper Maxwell Siegelman (Roslyn Heights) entered into the game, Rensselaer tested the Red Dragons and their defense with three quick shots in the first few minutes but remained unsuccessful.

After a quick shot by Rensselaer, Oneonta made their way down the field and set up the second goal for the Red Dragons. Junior Tim Sagasti (Endicott) passed the ball 15 yards across the field into the box where senior Michael Diefenbacher (Marcy) headed the ball past the keeper into the left corner of the goal to take the lead 2-0.

Rensselaer got themselves on the board in the 86th minute when Jimmy Mulhern dribbled the ball to the middle of the box and scored for the Engineers.

With time ticking off the clock Rensselaer played with urgency moving the ball up the field, but the Oneonta defense didn't allow any more shots to the goal as time expired.

The Red Dragons will be in action again this Saturday, September 18th travelling to face New Paltz at 1:00 p.m. in their first conference match-up of the season.
