The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis finished the job today when they captured the North Atlantic Conference championship with an easy 9-0 win against Castleton State. The Red Dragons cruised last week to the NAC West Division title while Castleton had won the East Division. The two division winners then met this afternoon at the Tri-City Tennis Fitness Club in Latham, N.Y. to decide the overall champion for 2010.
Oneonta (16-4) will have to wait for the NCAA Div. III tournament announcement to see whether they will get in a Pool B team, which is awarded to schools that are independent or who play in a conference without a automatic berth. The NAC does not receive its automatic qualifier until the spring of 2012. Unfortunately, Oneonta will not be a member of the NAC beginning next year, which means they will become an independent in Div. III unless they can find another conference to be associated with in the future.
