Box Score The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team got four goals from sophomore #Blair Hanson (Fayetteville/Fayetteville Manlius)# today as the Red Dragons opened its SUNYAC portion of the schedule with a 12-9 road win against Potsdam. The win for Oneonta got them back to the .500 mark at 4-4 overall while the loss for the Bears drops them to an identical 4-4 record overall.
Potsdam scored the game's opening goal at the 10:52 mark of the opening quarter. The Red Dragons bounced back with a pair of successive goals by junior #Ryan Waibel (West Islip/West Islip)# just about two minutes apart. The Bears added a second goal late in the quarter to tie the score at 2-2, which is how the first period would end.
Waibel gave Oneonta a 3-2 lead with a goal at the 12:39 mark of the second period with an assist from senior #Scott Weiner (Suffern/Suffern)#. After a goal by Potsdam to tie the game again, Oneonta scored two more including one by freshman #Jimmy van de Veerdonk# with just over one minute to go in the quarter to give the Red Dragons a 5-3 lead that they took into the break.
Potsdam came back in the third quarter to tie the score at seven with 1:29 left in the quarter. A man down goal by Hanson less than 30 seconds later gave the Red Dragons its lead back at 8-7 at the end of the third period.
Oneonta out scored Potsdam 4-2 in the final quarter thanks to a pair of goals each by Hanson and junior #Brian Kollar (East Islip/East Islip)# for the final score of 12-9.
Sophomore #Chris Miles (Manlius/Fayetteville Manlius)# made six saves in picking up his second win of the season.
Oneonta will play a neutral site contest this Wednesday evening against Mount St. Mary. The game will take place at the Mitchell Athletic Complex in East Meadow, N.Y. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
