The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team lost its second consecutive conference game on Saturday afternoon as they fell to the Geneseo Blue Knights by the score of 14-9. Senior Scott Weiner (Suffern/Suffern) led the Red Dragons with four points including his 100th career point on a goal in the third quarter.


The game started with Geneseo scoring four unanswered goals including two by sophomore Brendan Kurpis (Yorktown/Yorktown). Kurpis finished the day with four goals and one assist and had four ground balls.


Oneonta (7-6/3-2 SUNYAC) would trail at the end of the first quarter by the score of 4-2 and would close the margin to one as senior Steve Loesch (Massapequa/St. Anthony's) scored a goal just 57-seconds into the second period. Geneseo scored twice more in the half on goals by Tim Hayden (Phoenix/Baldwinsville) and Kurpis to take a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.


Geneseo (9-2/4-1 SUNYAC) would go on a scoring spree in the third quarter by out scoring the Red Dragons 6-3 to increase its lead to 12-6.


With under four-minutes to go in the third quarter sophomore goalkeeper Dennis Costanza (Webster/Webster-Schroeder) would make a save on the defensive side of the field and run the entire length of the field and score his first goal of the season on an empty Oneonta cage.


The Red Dragons scored three more times in the fourth quarter on goals by seniors Weiner and a pair from Loesch, who were honored before the game in celebration of senior day. Other seniors who were honored included Andrew Gallo (Plainview/Bethpage), Will Wilson-Jackson, Matt Harvey (Bay Shore/Islip) and Andrew McIntosh (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley).


In goal for the Red Dragons this afternoon was sophomore Chris Miles (Manlius/Fayetteville Manlius) who made eight saves and allowed 14 goals in all 60-minutes of play.


Costanza made 13 saves and allowed eight goals in 57:07 of play before being called for a slashing penalty, which made way for Noah Berg (Rochester/Brighton). Berg would make three saves and allow the final Oneonta tally in playing just 2:53.


Oneonta's next game will be on Tuesday evening, Apr. 27th as they visit their crosstown rival Hartwick Hawks beginning at 7 p.m.
