College at Brockport Defeats SUNY Oneonta 13-9

Red Dragons winning streak snapped by Golden Eagles

     The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team had its four-game win streak snapped today at home when the College at Brockport Golden Eagles defeated them 13-9. Brockport (7-4/1-2 SUNYAC) was led by sopho­more Nate Thomas (Cortland/Cortland), who finished the game with three goals and three as­sists. Oneonta (7-5/3-1 SUNYAC) was led by junior Ryan Waibel (West Islip/West Islip), who had three goals.

     Freshman Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) gave Brockport a 1-0 lead at the 11:34 mark of the first quarter with an unassisted goal.

     Oneonta answered with back-to-back goals by Waibel and classmate Tom Kelly (Lake Peekskill/Putnam Valley) to give the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

     After an unassisted goal by sophomore Mike Hartnett (Cortland/Cortland) tied the game at 2-2, Oneonta finished the quarter with a pair of goals in the final 1:22 to take a 4-2 lead after one period.

     The Golden Eagles turned the tables on Oneonta in the second period, scoring four goals in­cluding a pair by junior Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse/Nottingham) while only allowing two goals to bring the score to even at halftime, 6-6.

     The third quarter was all Brockport as they put a five spot on the board to take an 11-7 lead at the end of the third period. Five different players scored for Brockport while three of the goals were assisted by Thomas.

     Both teams scored two goals each in the fourth period for the final of 13-9. Junior goalie Kyle Crosley (Clinton/Hom­er) made 18 saves in picking up his seventh win for Brockport.

     Oneonta will not be in action again until next Saturday when they host Geneseo for a SUNYAC contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
