The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team shot 63 percent in the second half en route to knocking off first place Brockport 65-54 before the largest home crowd of the season. The 721 fans were treated to some high flying dunks and some hot shooting from behind the arc as Oneonta raised its overall record to 16-5 while pulling to within a game of the Golden Eagles in the SUNYAC at 9-5.

Brian Beckford (Brooklyn/Christ the King)# was the man tonight for Oneonta. He recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while also blocking four shots and dishing out four assists. He hit 7-of-10 shots from the field including three highlight dunks.
The hot hand for the Red Dragons from deep was that of junior #
Brian Hooks (Cohoes/Shaker)#, who hit 5-of-7 shots including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Hooks finished the contest with 17 points.
Oneonta also carried a huge advantage off the glass today utilizing its height to outrebound Brockport 41-28.
The two teams battled to a 25-25 score through the opening 20 minutes of play. There were six ties in the first half including the one at the halftime buzzer. Both teams shot an identical 37.5 percent from the floor in the half.
It appeared that Oneonta had assumed control of the first half when they went on a 12-4 run to break a 10-all tie. Hooks scored five points during the run and finished the half leading Oneonta in scoring with eight points.
Brockport was able to pull even with an 11-3 run over the final seven minutes of the first half. Senior Jermaine Johnson (Long Island City/Long Island City) scored 10 of his team high 15 points in the first half.
Oneonta will not be in action again until this coming Friday night when they will be on the road for a SUNYAC contest against Buffalo State beginning at 8:00 p.m.
