SUNY Oneonta had five players reach double figures tonight as they defeated Oswego 77-69 to advance to the semifinals of the SUNYAC Tournament. They will play Cortland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night at Plattsburgh. Cortland was a 70-60 winner over Fredonia tonight in its quarterfinal game.
With the victory, the Red Dragons (21-5) tied the single season record for wins, which was set during the 1976-77 season. That year Oneonta finished the season 21-6 and played in the Div. III national championship game.

Brian Beckford (Brooklyn/Christ the King)# and junior #
Brian Hooks (Cohoes/Shaker)# shared high honors tonight for Oneonta with 20 points apiece. Beckford scored all 20 of his points in the second half to go along with 10 boards. He also hit 12-of-15 free throws and had a team high five assists. Hooks finished the game with three, three-point baskets and seven free throws to go with a couple of layups.
Oswego made a game of it in the second half overcoming a 22-point deficit to get as close nine points at 57-48 with 7:17 remaining. The lead continued to go back-and-forth from double digits and single digits for the remainder of the second half.
Sophomore Chad Burridge (Hannibal/Hannibal) led the Lakers with 17 points.

Oneonta shot 55 percent in the opening half of play in building a 36-22 lead at intermission. Hooks led the Red Dragon charge with 12 points including a three-point basket to end the half. Oneonta held a 16-13 lead at the midway point of the first half before pulling away with a 20-9 run over the final 10 minutes of the opening half.
