ONEONTA,N.Y.—In front of a capacity crowd on homecoming weekend, Oneonta State clinched the SUNYAC regular season title with a 2-0 victory over SUNY Oswego. This is the first time the men have clinched since being eligible for the SUNYAC tournament in 2008.

Previous to the start of the game the team honored it's three seniors; Joe Sorriento (Latham), Larry Pestana (Valhalla), and Michael Diefenbacher (Marcy) who will all be contributing factors in tournament play.

Oneonta controlled the tempo most of the first half out shooting, owning corners 4-1 and only allowing 4 fouls against the Lakers. Two back-to-back shots by Diefenbacher and sophomore Jeff Christian (Middletown) in the first eight minutes of play gave Oswego keeper Marcus LaRobardiere two good saves and let him know the pressure was on.

In the 41st minute of play, just before the half, sophomore Dan Josepher (Manorville) finally put one in the back of the net. After shortly before coming off the bench Josepher headed the ball into the back of the net after senior Mike Boland (Loudonville) sent it into the box ending the half leading 1-0.

In the second half Oswego put pressure back on the Red Dragons, but were unable to capitalize. Unfortunately it backfired for the Lakers. After a great ball and shot by Max Guliani, the Red Dragons marched down the field and were awarded a penalty shot after a foul occurred inside the box. The team decided to let sophomore Ian Tenzer (Mahopac) take the shot as he kicked the ball into the far right corner out of reach for LaRobardiere and the Lakers.

The lakers put the pressure on Keeper Maxwell Siegelman (Roslyn Heights) who made six saves in the second half shutting out Oswego.

With Josepher's goal today, he was the teams season points leader with six goals and three assists for a total of 15 points.

The announcement of the tournament pairings and locations of games will be announced early this week by the SUNYAC office.
