BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team asserted itself today in the SUNYAC and in the East region as it knocked off # 20 Brockport 2-0 on the road. Oneonta (7-2-2/4-1) won its fourth straight contest while handing the Golden Eagles (7-1-2/3-1) its first loss of the season. The Red Dragons also snapped Brockport's scoreless streak at 796 minutes while moving into first place in the conference standings.
Oneonta got a goal in the first half from junior
Jonathan Kowalski (Glens Falls) in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Kowalski was able to head a ball sent in by sophomore
Dan Josepher (Manorville) on a corner kick.
Oneonta's second goal came in the 81st minute by senior
Gary Laronde (Wheatley Heights) unassisted.
Brockport finished the game with a 19-14 advantage in shots. Oneonta goalkeeper,
Maxwell Siegelman (Roslyn Heights), made six saves for Oneonta in recording his second straight shutout.
Oneonta will be back in action this Friday on the road at Plattsburgh for a key SUNYAC match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
