Michael Grimes (Albany/Catholic Central)# scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures today as the Red Dragons picked up an 80-79 win on the road against Geneseo in SUNYAC men's action. Grimes scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half to help the Red Dragons overcome a 15-point deficit in the second half. The Red Dragons shot 44 percent from the field for the game including 53 percent in the second half when they came from behind.
The win for Oneonta gave them a split of back-to-back SUNYAC contests after falling to Brockport last night. Oneonta is now 9-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

The game was tight for most of the first half before the Blue Knights opened up a 10 point lead with just under five minutes to go. Oneonta closed the half outscoring Geneseo 8-4 to trail by only six points at 42-36 at the break.
Geneseo opened the second half with an 11-2 run to create some breathing room at 53-38 with 17:43 remaining.
A 17-4 run over the next six minutes by Oneonta cut the Blue Knights' lead to just two points with just under 12 minutes to go. Grimes led the way with six points while senior #

An old fashioned three-point play by Beckford and a lay up by Gillette gave the Red Dragons its first lead since the first half at 61-59 at the 10:27 mark.
A three-point basket by Grimes at the 4:25 mark gave Oneonta a seven-point lead at 74-67. They still held a six-point lead with 36 seconds remaining before Geneseo scored five unanswered points to cut the lead to one point with 14 seconds left.
Gillette missed he front end of a 1-and-1 and then Oneonta committed a foul at the other end giving Geneseo two shots to tie and take the lead with two seconds remaining. The Blue Knights missed both shots and junior #
Troy Talbot (Brooklyn/The School for Legal Studies)# secured the rebound and was fouled. He missed his free throw, but on the ensuing rebound the clock expired.
In Friday evening's loss at Brockport, three Red Dragons reached double figures led by Grimes and Beckford, who scored 19 and 18 points respectively. Talbot came off the bench to add 12 points. Beckford also grabbed a-game-high-12-rebounds.
Except for being tied at halftime, Oneonta held the lead throughout the entire opening half of play. The Red Dragons shot 57 percent in the first half, but couldn't pull away from the Golden Eagles. Brockport turned the tables in the second half shooting 63 percent to take the seven-point home win.
With the game tied for the fourth time at the 12:31 mark of the second half at 39 apiece, the hosts seized control of the game for good with 15-7 run over the next four minutes. The Red Dragons got as close as one point at 64-63 with just under two minutes remaining, but Brockport outscored Oneonta 10-4 over the final two minutes for the home win.
Oneonta's will next be in action this coming Tuesday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Oswego for an 8:00 p.m. SUNYAC contest.
