Volleyball Splits Pair on Final Day of SUNYAC Pool Play

     The SUNY Oneonta volleyball completed its fist weekend of pool play in the SUNYAC East Division by splitting a pair of matches today.   The Red Dragons completed the two-day event going 3-1 overall to put themselves in a three-way tie for first play with one final pool play weekend to go in four weeks at Cortland.
     Oneonta (8-10) swept Plattsburgh to end the day, bouncing back from its 3-0 loss to New Paltz that began the day.   New Paltz, along with Cortland, who Oneonta swept yesterday, are the other two teams tied atop the East Division standings.
     Against Plattsburgh, senior Christine LaGuardia (Wappingers Falls/Arlington) led Oneonta with 13 kills and 17 digs.  Junior Kelsey Klopfer (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) fueled the attack with 20 assists.
     In the opener, sophomore Jessica Zerega (New City/Clarkstown) led the defensive effort with 13 digs while Klopfer added 16 assists.
     At he conclusion of the second SUNYAC pool play weekend the top three teams from the East and West Divisions will qualify for the conference tournament this year to be hosted by the East Division winner.  The tournament is scheduled for Nov. 5-7.
     The Red Dragons will not be in action again until next Friday when they begin competition in the 40th Oneonta State Invitational.  The Red Dragons will host the 12 team, two-day event, and will play Kings' and St. Joseph's (LI) at 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. respectively on day one.
