     Plattsburgh junior Steve Thomas (Plattsburgh/Clinton CC) hit a runner in the lane with 2.2 seconds remaining to put the Cardinals ahead 60-58 and then desperation half court shot by SUNY Oneonta senior #Michael Grimes (Albany/Catholic Central)# fell short as time expired as Plattsburgh escaped with the narrow victory today in SUNYAC men's action. Thomas, who scored the final six points for the Cardinals, finished the game with 20 points.
     Plattsburgh (7-1/2-0) earned its victory today as they overcame an eight-point deficit in the last 3:59 of the game. The visitors trailed 54-46 after Oneonta (4-1/1-1) senior #Brian Beckford (Brooklyn/Christ the King)# made two free throws. Beckford, who scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, wasn't on the floor when this one finished as he fouled out at the 3:47 mark.
     Thomas' jump shot with 42 seconds to go put Plattsburgh ahead 56-55, which was the Cardinals first lead since the 3:49 mark of the first half.
     Trailing 58-55, Oneonta looked for a quick two points to work for one more possession and missed the original shot, but Grimes grabbed the rebound and passed the ball to junior #Brian Hooks (Cohoes/Shaker)#, who lined up a three point shot and hit it to tie the game with 8.3 seconds to go.
     The two teams battled closely throughout the entire first half. There were six ties and three lead changes with Oneonta taking a 27-25 lead into the break.
     Grimes finished the game with 12 points while junior #Troy Talbot (Brooklyn/The School for Legal Studies)# added 11 points. Senior #Kevin Walsh (Middletown/Minisink Valley)# grabbed a team high 11 rebounds for the Red Dragons.
     Junior Errol Daniyan (Coram/Longwood) matched Thomas' 20 points to share high man honors while classmate Chris Ruiz (Bronx/St. Agnes) contributed 13 points.
     Oneonta will be in action again this Tuesday evening at Hartwick for a game beginning at 8:00 p.m.
