Brockport Shuts Out SUNY Oneonta

Golden Eagles take road win

Box Score      The College at Brockport men's soccer team left Oneonta with a key 2-0 shutout against the host Red Dragons this afternoon in SUNYAC action. Senior Steve Abgarian (Merrick/Bellmore-JFK) figured in on both scores for the Golden Eagles (5-3-2/3-1) scoring the first goal and assisting on Brockport's second tally to lead the way.
Similar to Oneonta's (8-3/3-2) game yesterday with Geneseo, the scoring for the contest came in the second half, unfortunately a stingy defense for Brockport didn't allow the Red Dragons to get on the scoreboard in this one.
Abgarian's first goal today came on a great rush down the right side before cutting in to beat the defender. From there he fired a shot along the ground that found the back of the goal.
On Brockport's second goal in the 74th minute, Abgarian dropped a pass to junior Christian Tychostup (Mayfield/Mayfield), who rifled a shot over the outstretched arms of Oneonta keeper Jonathan Korn (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills) and under the crossbar.
Oneonta did have 17 shots in the game with a couple of near misses in the second half, but were unable to push one over the line in dropping its second straight game in conference play. Freshman Teddy DeConno (Poestenkill/Averill Park) had a header that just went wide in the 57th minute while sophomore Evan Jedynak (Malta/Ballston Spa) had a header just miss the left post in the 64th minute on a service that deflected over the Brockport keeper.
Oneonta will not be in action again until this Friday when they host Plattsburgh for another SUNYAC match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
