Box Score 2 The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team won a pair of matches on the first day of the 40 annual Oneonta State Invitational. The Red Dragons made quick work of both King's College and St. Joseph's (LI) to even its overall record at 10-10. The two wins put Oneonta in the championship bracket of the tournament that will conclude tomorrow. Oneonta's first match will be at 11:30 a.m. against RIT, who won its pool to advance to the championship bracket.
In its 3-1 opening win against King's, junior
Megan Boeltz (Greene/Greene) and freshman
Kacy Boburka (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) led the attack with 13 and 11 kills respectively.
Sophomores
Christina Fabiochi (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) and
Jessica Zerega (New City/Clarkstown) led the defense with 17 and 14 digs respectively.
Freshman
Brittany Calvello (Gloversville/Broadalbin-Perth) had 21 assists while junior
Kelsey Klopfer (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) added 18 assists.
The Red Dragons swept St. Joseph's 3-0 behind a 14 kill effort by Boburka. Klopfer registered 13 assists while senior
Christine LaGuardia (Wappingers Falls/Arlington) had a team-high 13 digs.
If Oneonta gets past RIT in the semfinals tomorrow they will play in the championship match at 3:30 p.m. If the Red Dragons are upended they will play in the third place match at 1:30 p.m.
