Box Score Freshman
Eric Fortier (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) scored twice helping the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout of visiting Potsdam on Saturday afternoon on Oneonta's Red Dragon Field. With the win the Red Dragons improve to 9-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in SUNYAC play while Potsdam falls to 3-9-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the conference with the loss.
Sophomore
Jonathan Kowalski (Glens Falls/Glens Falls)put the Red Dragons on the board in the 24th-minute collecting a ball that was reflected right in front of the goal and putting it into the net to give Oneonta the first lead of the game.
The Bears came close to scoring a few times in the first half including three shots in the final 20-seconds of the half but solid defense by Oneonta senior goalie
Jonathan Korn (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills) preserved the shutout as the Red Dragons took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Fortier gave the Red Dragons a cushion 15:14 into the second half taking a open shot from the top of the box and putting it by Potsdam goalie Joseph Glackin (Latham/Shaker) to make it 2-0.
Fortier struck again 19-minutes later this time taking a pass from Kowalski inside the box and sending a shot that rolled past Glackin to make it 3-0.
The final goal of the day came less than a minute later when freshman
Dan Scott (Hyde Park/FD Roosevelt) found himself open in front of the net connected to pick up his first collegiate goal and make it 4-0.
The Red Dragons finished the game with a 18-10 advantage in shots and a 9-2 advantage in corners.
Korn and sophomore
Jesse Dobson (Holtsville/Sachem) split the game in goal for the Red Dragons combining for the shutout. Korn played 84-minutes and made four saves while Dobson did not face any shots in the final six minutes.
The Red Dragons will return to action next Saturday, October 17th when they travel to Hobart for a game beginning at 2:00 pm.
