Townsend enters her first season as the assistant coach with Oneonta after a tremendous playing career at the University of Connecticut.
 
As a three-year starter during her four-year career with the Huskies, Townsend was a key contributor to a pair of NCAA Division I national championships.  She finished her career playing in all 93 games during as a midfielder.  During both runs to a national title she registered a goal including the game-winner versus Syracuse in the national championship game.  She finished her career with 15 goals and four assists.
 
As a three-sport athlete at nearby Harpursville High School, Townsend scored 55 goals and dished out 38 assists during her field hockey career.  She was honored as a First Team All-State selection during her sophomore, junior and senior years and honored as a First Team All-Star in each of her four seasons.  A team captain during her senior year, Townsend was selected as the team MVP all four years.  She was also selected to compete in the Outdoor Nationals from 2008-11 and competed in the Empire State Games in 2010 while playing in the Junior Olympics in 2008 and 2009.
