ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's tennis team started SUNYAC play with an emphatic, 7-0, shutout victory over SUNY Delhi, Friday afternoon at the Dr. Heissan '63 Tennis Courts. As a team, Oneonta recorded 11 bagel sets in two doubles and five singles matches, while allowing Delhi to only take one game throughout the match. The conference win improved the Red Dragons record to 5-0 this season, 1-0 in the SUNYAC, and the Broncos dropped to 0-1 overall.
"I'm very happy with our start this year," Head Coach
Brian Roser commented. "We took care of business efficiently today, and I'm especially pleased that we still haven't dropped a set in doubles. Moving to 5-0 with our first conference win of the season is a great place to be."
Oneonta won two of the doubles courts in 6-0 fashion, while they earned court three by default. Senior
Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) and junior
Annika Cripe (Islip, N.Y./Islip) bageled Abigail Arnold and Kara Fitch on court one, and Red Dragon duo junior
Taylor Plue (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and sophomore
Kiersten Rufrano (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) shutout Jaiyana Evans and Elizabeth Losee on court two. Sophomores
Dakota Jimenez (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) and
Ashley Glaviano (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) won court three by default. The wins improved the Cripe and Peck team to 5-0 this season and the Plue/Rufrano tandem to 4-0.
Oneonta's momentum continued into singles play with each Red Dragon recording several aces, while four total courts were won in 6-0, 6-0, double bagel style. Without losing a game, Cripe defeated Losee on court two, and Plue beat Fitch on court three. Rufrano shutdown Evans on court four, and Jimenez bested Victoria Paris with a pair of bagels on court five. Cripe's singles record improved to 3-0 this season, while Plue boosted hers to 4-1. Rufrano is now 3-1 in singles play, and Jimenez elevated her singles record to 2-1 with the win.
Peck played a clean match on the top singles court and handled Arnold in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. The singles victory moved Peck to a 4-1 record on court one this season. Freshman

Oneonta is back in SUNYAC action on Saturday, September 19, when they travel to Cortland for the Battle of the Red Dragons starting at 1 pm.
