Red Dragons Place Second at SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's track & field team had three individual titles to conclude the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons finished as the conference runner-up with 167 points, while Cortland won the meet with 250. Sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) was named the SUNYAC Most Valuable Performer for the second year in a row after totaling 35 points.

In the heptathlon, freshman Eva Croft (Sherrill, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill Central) finished with 3,169 points to place sixth, while junior Jacey Hinds (Blossvale, NY/Camden Senior) had 3,091 points for seventh.

On the track, sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 12:12.55, and sophomore Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) took eighth at 12:27.42.

Oneonta's 4x100 relay of Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central), Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central), and Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) took silver at 48.42.

Sophomore Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) was the SUNYAC Champion in the 1,500-meter with a personal and meet record time of 4:32.11. Her time currently ranks 22nd in NCAA Division III. Freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) took seventh at 4:56.72. Sweat also grabbed All-SUNYAC Third Team honors in the 800-meter at 2:17.54. Junior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) was eighth (4:59.45), and junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) crossed ninth (5:03.24). Freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) took sixth in the 800 at 2:26.59.

Schrag claimed the 100-meter hurdle title with a time of 14.88. Junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) placed sixth at 15.86. Schrag continued with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.62).

The Red Dragons had two runners in the 100-meter finals, with Nicholls crossing fifth at 12.54 and DuBose placing seventh at 12.73. In the 200-meter race, Nicholls took fourth in 25.43. Gorrell ran a 26.34 for sixth overall, while DuBose placed seventh at 26.66.

Junior Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) posted a time of 18:09.51 to finish fourth in the 5,000-meter race. Sloth placed eighth at 18:39.21.

Oneonta concluded the track events with a bronze medal in the 4x400 relay. Brianna Senatore (), Sweat, Friedel, and Gorrell placed third at 4:10.46.

Schrag recorded an All-SUNYAC Second Team performance in the triple jump at 10.85 meters. DuBose finished fourth at 10.81 meters, and junior Carly Hein (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) was seventh at 10.48 meters. Junior Melinda Reid (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) scored in the high jump by taking seventh at 1.47 meters.

Senior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) claimed the shot put title with a mark of 12.29 meters. Sophomore Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) finished sixth (11.26m), and freshman Brianna Cinamon (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) was seventh (11.14m).

Oneonta next competes at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday, May 9.
