Strong Performances Highlight Cortland Red Dragon Open

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's track & field team delivered a strong all-around performance at the Cortland Red Dragon Open on Friday afternoon, highlighted by multiple event victories, AARTFC qualifiers, and depth across both track and field events.

The Red Dragons performed well in the relays, sweeping both events. The 4x100 squad of Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central), Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central), and Nicolette posted an AARTFC qualifying time of 48.44. The momentum carried into the 4x400 with Schrag, Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh), Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit), and Gorrell hitting an AARTFC mark of 4:06.36.

In the individual sprinting events, Nicholls earned top-ten performances, taking fourth in the 200-meter (25.31) and ninth in the 100-meter (12.55), both AARTFC qualifying times. DuBose gathered a personal best of 12.46 in the 100-meter for a regional qualifying time. DuBose took sixth in the 100-meter with a personal record and regional qualifying time of 12.46. Gorrell took 11th in the 100-meter at 12.81.

Sweat added a top finish in the 400-meter, placing third with a personal best of 1:01.00.

In the distance events, junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) paced the Red Dragons in the 800 meters with a 12th-place finish in 2:33.27. Freshman Sam Alomon crossed 14th with a personal best of 2:43.65. Freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) led the way in the 1500 meters, finishing 12th in 5:03.80, while freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) (16th, 5:09.41) and sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) (23rd, 5:26.86) added solid efforts. 

Schrag added some strong performances with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.16) and won the long jump (5.48 meters). Junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) finished sixth in the 100-hurdles (15.90) and fourth in the long jump (5.23 meters).

In the field events, Oneonta saw success across multiple disciplines. DuBose placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.72 meters, while Carly Hein (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) contributed in both horizontal jumps, finishing 12th in the long jump (4.88 meters) and eighth in the triple jump (10.15 meters).

In the throws, senior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) led the way with a third-place finish in the shot put (11.65m) and a standout performance in the hammer throw, placing fourth with a mark of 51.71 meters to meet the AARTFC standard. Her hammer thorw mark aslo is currently 12th in NCAA Division III. Sophomore Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) also hit a qualifying mark in the hammer throw (46.13m), finishing sixth, and added a sixth-place finish in the shot put (11.15m). Junior Sophia Mitreski (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) chipped in with a ninth-place finish in the discus (31.18m).

Oneonta next splits its travel between the Hamilton Invitational and the Bucknell Outdoor Classic on Saturday, April 11.
