Red Dragons Earn Third Place Finish at RPI Capital District Classic

TROY, N.Y. — The Oneonta women's track & field team delivered a strong and balanced performance on Friday at the Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI, finishing third overall with 107 team points.

The Red Dragons were highlighted by a dominant showing in the 4x100-meter relay, as the quartet of Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central), Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central), and Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) raced to a first-place finish in 47.95 for the second fastest time in program history.

On the track, Oneonta saw several top finishes in the sprints and hurdles. Freshman Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) led the way in the 100-meter dash with a runner-up finish in 12.69, while Kristanna Samascott (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) (5th, 13.09), Brianna Senatore () (6th, 13.30), and Jacey Hinds (Blossvale, NY/Camden Senior) (8th, 13.51) added scoring performances. In the 200 meters, Gorrell placed fifth (26.47), with Senatore finishing 10th (27.20).

Sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) continued her strong meet in the hurdles, placing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.76), while Alyssa Sorochinsky (South New Berlin, NY/Gilbertsville Mount Upton) added a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:23.50).

In the middle-distance events, junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) paced the Red Dragons in the 800 meters with a 10th-place finish and personal best (2:27.86), followed closely by a Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) personal record (15th, 2:31.45) and Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) (17th, 2:32.41). In the 1500 meters, Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) led a strong Oneonta showing in the unseeded section, winning the race in a personal best of 5:02.34, while Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) placed second (5:07.35). In the seeded section, Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) turned in a fourth-place finish with a personal record time time of 4:51.86.

Schrag added a third-place finish in the long jump (5.55m), while Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) placed fourth (5.47m) for a personal best. In the triple jump, DuBose secured a runner-up finish with a mark of 11.35m, and Schrag added a fourth-place effort (10.98m).

In the throws, Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) led the way with a second-place finish in the hammer throw (50.74m) and added strong marks in both the shot put (5th, 11.82m) and discus (4th, 33.94m). Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) also contributed with a fifth-place finish in the hammer (46.15m) and fourth in the shot put (11.90m), while Brianna Cinamon (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) placed sixth in the shot put (11.48m).

In the pole vault, sophomore Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) earned a second-place finish, clearing 3.15 meters for a new program record.

The Red Dragons will next travel to the SUNYAC Championships hosted by Cortland on May 1.
