CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's track & field team wrapped up the first day of the Cortland Classic, highlighted by strong performances and multiple personal bests.
In the heptathlon, junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) currently ranks fourth with 2,346 points. Junior Jacey Hinds (Blossvale, NY/Camden Senior) is 12th at 1,860, while freshman Eva Croft (Sherrill, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill Central) is 13th with 1,852 points.
The track events began with the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) ran a personal best of 11:51.58 for third. Sophomore Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) crossed fourth at 12:23.64, and freshman Lilly Jacobs (Williamson, NY/Williamson Central) was seventh at 13:06.47.
Freshman Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) finished fourth in the 100-meter prelims at 12.51. Junior Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) grabbed 11th at 12.79, freshman Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) was 15th (12.91), and junior Brianna Senatore () took 16th (12.92).
Sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) won the 100-meter hurdle prelims at 14.96 to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
In the distance events, freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) crossed at a personal best of 5:01.58 for second place. Freshman was close behind for a personal record of 5:04.54 for fourth overall. Junior Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) ran a personal best of 5:28.71, and freshman Kaitlynn Slobodin (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) placed 12th (5:30.70).
Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) ran an AARTFC time of 39:33.69 to place third in the 10,000-meter. Sophomore Abbie Battle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa/) placed sixth at 43:48.93.
The Red Dragons' relay of Schrag, Senatore, Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh), and Gorrell ran an AARTFC qualifying mark of 401.28 for second place.
Moving on to the field events, senior Tarryn Herm took second in the hammer throw at 51.15 meters. Sophomore Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) finished ninth at 44.07 meters. Junior Carly Hein (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) was 11th in the javelin at 19.08 meters.
Sophomore Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) earned fourth in the pole vault at 3.05 meters.
Oneonta concludes the Cortland Red Dragon Open on Saturday, April 18, at 9 a.m.
