Men's Tennis Falls to No. 44 Hamilton on the Road

CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's tennis team stumbled against No. 44 nationally ranked Hamilton College, 7-0, on the road Saturday evening. Hamilton had the upper hand in doubles play before they took five of the six singles courts in straight sets. The result moved the Red Dragons to 8-10 this season and the Continentals to 7-6 overall.

"Happy with the guy's effort today as they continue to put up a good fight against nationally ranked teams," Head Coach Brian Roser commented. "Especially impressed with Will Schmid, who continues to play at a high level against strong opponents. Looking forward to getting back in the win column this week against Delhi."

Senior William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) was in a tightly contested match on court two against Alex Salib. Schmid was close to forcing a tiebreaker in the first set, but Salib held on for the 7-5 set. The Red Dragon continued to battle against the Continental in the second set, and the two went into a tiebreak where Schmid won to force a third set tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Salib ended up pulling away for a 7-5, 6-7, 10-6, decision.

Hamilton took the other five singles matches in straight sets. Sophomore Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery) was a couple games away from forcing a tiebreaker in the first set of his match on court four against Akshat Dhull, however Dhull earned the first set before taking the second for a 6-4, 6-2 final. Junior Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was defeated by Eerik Villem Aadamsoo on cout one, 6-1, 6-0.

Freshman Amine Abidi (Casablanca, Morocco/John A .Coleman Catholic) was bested in straight 6-2 sets against Ethan Chin on court six. Sophomore Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) dropped a pair of sets on court three to Ignatio Tran, 6-1, 6-2, and senior Nate Inzerillo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) was tripped up on court five by Dylan Trinh, 6-0, 6-1.

The Continentals started the match out by securing all three doubles courts for the doubles point. Schmid and Chippari fell to Aadmsoo and Lleyton Mendietta on court one, 6-1. Ritterman and Pitaleff were also defeated on court two, 6-1, by Anson Anderson and Filip Moller. Inzerillo and junior Seth Cheung (Somers, N.Y./Somers) were upended by Salib and Trinh on court three, 6-0.

The Red Dragons are back home for their final home match of the season on Wednesday, April 15, against Delhi in their One Love dedication match starting at 4 pm at Dr. Heissan '63 Tennis Courts.
