Red Dragons Place Second at Ramapo College Invitational to Open Outdoor Season

MAHWAH, N.J. - The Oneonta women's track & field team opened the outdoor season by placing second out of 28 teams at the Ramapo College Invitational over the weekend. The Red Dragons scored 113 points, while Vassar won the meet with 115.

Two Red Dragons reached the 100-meter hurdle finals, with sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) placing third in the prelims at 15.45 and junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) placing eighth at 16.57. Schrag took fourth in the finals at 16.40.

In the 200-meter, freshman Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) finished fifth at 26.41, while freshman Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) took sixth at 26.48. Junior Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) ran a 26.6 for eighth.

Junior Jacey Hinds (Blossvale, NY/Camden Senior) grabbed 13th in the 400-meter at 1:06.60, and freshman Eva Croft (Sherrill, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill Central) placed 22nd at 1:09.13. The 800-meter saw senior Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) run a 2:39.79 for 16th overall, and freshman Kaitlynn Slobodin (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) cross 18th at 2:44.15.

Sophomore Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) won the 1,500-meter with a personal best of 4:42.72. Junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) placed fifth at 5:10.07, and junior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) ran a personal record of 5:11.45 for seventh place. Freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) was ninth at 5:16.56.

Oneonta had two runners in the top three of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) was second at a personal best of 12:16.23, and sophomore Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) crossed third at a personal best of 12:17.23.

Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) took third in the 5,000 at a personal record time of 18:42.74. Freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) placed seventh at 19:00.53. Junior Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) ran a personal best of 37:56.71 to finish third in the 10,000-meter.

Junior Sophia Mitreski (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) grabbed seventh in the discus at 31.30 meters, and senior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) threw 28.93 meters for tenth overall. Herman placed fifth in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 47.77 meters. Sophomore Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) took seventh at a personal record of 44.10 meters. Lawrence grabbed second in the shot put at 10.91 meters, and freshman Brianna Cinamon (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) was third at 10.47 meters.

Schrag won the long jump at 5.18 meters. Dodd-Brown took ninth at 4.71 meters. In the pole vault, sophomore Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) cleared 2.72 meters to win the event.

The 4x100 relay of Schrag, Nicholls, Gorrell, and DuBose placed third at 50.15.

Oneonta's 4x800 relay of Friedel, Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Komacek, and Sweat finished second at 10:24.86.

Oneonta next competes at the Cortland Red Dragon Open on Friday, April 3, at 1 p.m.
