ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's tennis team started their spring season in Rochester where they fell to RIT, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. The result moved the Red Dragons to an overall record of 5-2, while the Tigers improved to 4-1.
In doubles play, senior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) and junior
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) were a game away from forcing a tiebreaker against Alex Sinclair and Yu Tanimoto on the No. 1 court, but Sinclair and Tanimoto took the 12th game for the 7-5 decision. Sophomore
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and freshman
Amine Abidi () fell on court No. 2 to Luke Weber and Gabriel Escobar, and junior
Seth Cheung (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and sophomore
Ryan Geller (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) were stymied by Anthony Lounder and Trent Sauer on court No. 3, 6-0.
Ritterman had the closest match in singles play, however he came up short to Lounder on the No. 3 court, 6-4, 6-2. Schmid competed against Tyler Mitrovic on court No. 2, where Mitrovic took the match, 6-3, 6-1. On the No. 1 court, Chippari fell to Tanimoto, 6-0, 6-1, and Amine dropped his first singles match with the Red Dragons on the No. 6 court to Anjann Boorels, 6-2, 6-0. Geller and senior
Nate Inzerillo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) were both bested on courts four and five, respectively, 6-0, 6-0.
The Red Dragons are back on the courts on Saturday, February 14, for a road match against Saint Michael's in Colchester, Vt. starting at 11 a.m.
