Wrestling Honors Seniors at Red Dragon Quad

Oneonta Tripped Up in Regular Season Quad Finale

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta wrestling team wrapped up the regular season in Chase Gymnasium with the Red Dragon Quad Meet, Saturday afternoon. Oneonta came up short in all three of their matches as they hosted No. 17 nationally ranked Williams, No. 22 Ithaca, and Wesleyan. The Red Dragons fell to the Ephs 42-11, the Bombers 34-10, and the Cardinals 23-19. Senior Kennith Jackson (New Orleans, LA/) and sophomore Ryley Monica (Adams, NY/South Jefferson Central) both finished the day with two wins as the team finished the season 8-3 in duals.

During the meet and throughout the day, Oneonta held Senior Day where they recognized and celebrated the careers of their seniors. Those honored were Nicholas Aliani (Bayshore, NY/West Islip), Nicholas Borges (Orangetown, NY/Tappan Zee), Brandon Cirincione (East Quogue, NY/Westhampton Beach), Colby D'Andria (Hauppauge, NY/Saint John Baptist Diocesan), Zack Davis (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Warrensburg Jr. Sr. High), Aydin DeForest (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham), Kennith Jackson (New Orleans, LA/), Jack Kohrs (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury High School), Avery Leonard (Milford, N.Y./Milford Central), Carson LiCastri (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow High School), Andrew Morris (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent), Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT/), and Jonathan Zenny (Valley Stream, NY/G.W. Hewlett).

Oneonta 19, Wesleyan 23
Oneonta split their dual with Wesleyan and won five matches with four majors and a decision. Freshman Jack Borowiec () defeated Taylor Tan in a 6-4 decision at 133 lbs. Monica, freshman Wesly Guzman (Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland), LiCastri and Jackson all won their respective matches with a major decision.

Monica, the sixth ranked Region 2 165-pounder, handled Kellen Horst for a 12-0 major, at 165 pounds, then Guzman bested Akiva Lind for a 13-4 major at 174. LiCastri, the second ranked 197-pounder in Region 2, had the upper hand over Warren Little for the 8-0 win at 197, and Jackson, who is ranked sixth at 285 in Region 2, overpowered Michael DiOrio in a 14-0 major at 285.

In exhibition play, Kohrs defeated Silvan Unger in a 10-6 decision.

Oneonta 10, Ithaca 34
The Red Dragons took three matches against the Bombers with a major and two decisions. Junior Billy Colloca (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon Senior High) scored a few takedowns for an 11-3 major over Andrew Aparo at 125 pounds. Freshman Kingston Strouse (Northport, N.Y./Northport) had a couple takedowns to defeat William Bentrim in a 7-1 decision at 149 pounds, while Monica held off Chrisopher Reddy for a 5-1 decision at 165.

Oneonta 11, Williams 42 
Oneonta had Leonard and Jackson record a tech fall and fall, respectively, for the team's two wins against Williams. Leonard, who is nationally ranked 14th at 141 pounds, overwhelmed Tylor Stubbs, the seventh ranked 141-pounder in Region 1, for a 17-2 tech fall in 2:21. The tech was Leonard's 19th of the season and 62nd of his career. Jackson capped off the day with a 6:40 fall against the Ephs' Connor Reynolds at 285 lbs. Jackson's pin was the 47th of his career, which ties him for fourth most in program history with Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT/).

With the regular season coming to an end, Oneonta will compete next on February 27 in the NCAA Division III Regionals at Ithaca College. The Red Dragons will send 10 wrestlers to the two-day tournament for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships.
