Four Red Dragons Receive NWCA Scholar All-American Honors

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Four Oneonta wrestlers earned National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) 2026 Division III Men's Scholar All-American honors this season. The four Red Dragons recognized were seniors Carson LiCastri (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow High School), Avery Leonard (Milford, N.Y./Milford Central), junior Trevor Cortright (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), and freshman Kingston Strouse (Northport, N.Y./Northport). It is the second straight season LiCastri and Leonard have been named NWCA Scholar All-Americans. 

"These student-athletes have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence both on the mat and in the classroom. We commend their dedication and the example they set for the sport," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer.

To be eligible for Scholar All-American, student-athletes must place in the top-8 in the regional tournament or wrestle at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66%. They also must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

LiCastri went 31-8 with 14 falls, one tech, and five majors at 197 pounds. He was crowned the Region II Champion to earn his second career NCAA Championship appearance. LiCastri was also the SUNYAC Champion, the Rhode Island Anchorman Invite, the Wilkes Invitational and the RIT Invitational winner at 197. 

Leonard finished the season with a record of 33-7 at 141 and 149 pounds. He totaled four falls, 19 techs, and one major. Leonard qualified for the NCAA Championships this season for the second time in his career, and he was also a New York State champion, Wilkes Invitational champion and runner-up at the SUNYAC Championships to receive All-SUNYAC honors.

Cortright went 16-2 this season at 133 and 141 pounds with seven falls, one tech, and one major. He earned a SUNYAC Championship for the second time in his career at 133 pounds and placed third at the RIT Invitational this season. 

Strouse finished his freshman season 27-12 overall at 149 and 157 pounds. He recorded one fall, eight tech falls, and three majors. Strouse received the SUNYAC Wrestler Rookie of the Week honor twice this season.

The four Red Dragons helped Oneonta go 8-3 in dual matches with a top-5 finish at the Region II Championships, a fourth-place finish at the SUNYAC Championships, and fourth at the NYS Collegiate Championships. The Red Dragons won the Rhode Island Anchorman Invitational and third in the Wilkes Invitational.
