Oneonta Women's Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Utica Fast Trax Invite

UTICA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's track & field team continued the indoor season at the Utica Fast Trax Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Oneonta had two athletes reach the 60-meter hurdle finals. Sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) placed third in the prelims at 9.12, while junior Melinda Reid (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) took sixth at 9.50. Both times were good for AARTFC qualifying marks. Schrag took second in the finals at 9.05.

The Red Dragons had five reach the 60-meter dash finals. Junior Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) won the prelims at 7.97, and Schrag was third at a personal record of 8.06. Freshman Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) took sixth at 8.09, and freshman Grace Gorrell was seventh at 8.14. Junior Gianna Russo-Sanchez (East Islip, NY/East Islip) ran an 8.18 for eighth. DuBose went on to earn second in the finals at 7.93. Schrag crossed fourth at a personal best of 8.05. Gorrell was sixth (8.15), Russo-Sanchez took seventh (8.17), and Nicholls finished eighth (8.23).

Junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) placed sixth in the mile at 5:42.58, and freshman Lily Jacobs ran a personal best of 5:56.01 for tenth overall.

Junior Daniea Austin (Goshen, NY/Goshen) had a personal best of 48.75 to place 11th in the 300-meter. Oneonta had two top-four finishers in the 400-meter race. Freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) was third at 1:05.24, and senior Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) took fourth at 1:05.32.

Sophomore Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) won the 800-meter race at 2:18.63. Junior Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) placed seventh at 2:36.04, and Komacek placed eighth at 2:37.44.

In the 200-meter, DuBose crossed third at 26.38, and Nicholls took fourth at 26.46. Gorrell earned seventh at 26.60.

Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) ran an 11:04.32 to place second in the 3,000. Sophomore Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) took sixth at 11:34.91.

Oneonta's 4x200 relay of DuBose, Nicholls, Gorrell, and junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) won with an AARTFC qualifying time of 1:46.11. The DMR of Woodworth, Sweat, Friedel, and freshman Sam Salomon (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) took second at 13:58.46.

In the throwing events, senior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) took second in the shot put at 12.82 meters and threw 15.01 meters in the weight throw for fourth. Sophomore Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) was fifth in the shot put (12.24 meters) and had a personal record of 14.08 meters in the weight throw for eighth. Freshman Brianna Cinamon (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) took tenth in shot put at 10.70 meters.

DuBose finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.17 meters. Junior Carly Hein (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) took ninth at a personal best of 4.89 meters.

Schrag earned third in the triple jump, and Hein had another personal record of 10.15 meters for sixth place. Sophomore Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) grabbed a personal best of 9.93 meters for ninth place. She took fifth in the pole vault at 2.87 meters.

Dodd-Brown placed sixth in the high jump at 1.40 meters, and freshman Eva Croft (Sherrill, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill Central) finished eighth at 1.35 meters.

Oneonta next competes at the Cornell Deneault Invitational on Saturday, February 21, at 10 a.m.
