Ryan Earns Second SUNYAC Wrestler of the Week Honor

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta wrestling senior Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT/) was awarded the SUNYAC Wrestler of the Week award for the week of January 5-11, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. It is the second time this year Ryan has received the weekly accolade as he finished the week 6-0 with four first-round falls, a major decision versus a regionally ranked opponent, and recorded his 100th career win. With his victories, Ryan helped Oneonta go 6-0 on the week in dual matches and improved to 7-0 overall.

The Red Dragon started the week off 2-0 with a 36-second fall against Penn State Altoona's Andrew Weaver and a forfeit versus Keystone at the Giants Tri-Meet. He then went 4-0 in the Manganaro duals at Ursinus College. Ryan defeated Trinity College's Tucker Vician in a 1:01 fall, and beat Josh Nieroda, who is ranked eighth in Region 1, in an 11-0 major. In his match against Nieroda, Ryan took control early with a takedown 30 seconds in then a four-point nearfall shortly after.

Oneonta's 184-pounder pinned Logan Reiner in 1:16 to clinch their dual victory over No. 8 nationally ranked Johnson & Wales, then he ended the day with a 1:12 fall versus Jagger Gray for his 100th career win as the Red Dragons beat No. 13 Arcadia.

Ryan is currently 13-1 with nine pins, three major decisions and is ranked fifth in the nation and first in Region 2 at 184 pounds.

Oneonta is back in action on Saturday, January 24, for the SUNYAC Championships at SUNY Brockport, starting at 10 am.
