SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team defeated Johnson & Wales in four sets to open the Skidmore Classic on Friday evening. The Red Dragons took the first set 27-25 before falling 25-22 in the second. Oneonta then won the following two 25-22 and 25-19 to move to 6-0 on the year. The Wildcats fall to 3-2 with the loss.
Senior Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) knocked in ten kills on .364 hitting. She added three aces, three blocks, and three digs. Junior Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) recorded ten kills and two digs, while sophomore Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) had eight kills, five digs, four blocks, and two aces. Freshman Cadence Meltz (Highland, NY/Highland) tallied four aces and eight digs. Senior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior) grabbed 19 digs with two aces, while freshman Layla Pertchik (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) dished out 31 assists with 11 digs and two aces.
Viva Mansfield and Nevaeh Arnold led Johnson & Wales with ten kills each. Bailey Koopman finished with eight kills, five aces, and four blocks. Sierra Nausieda tallied 19 digs, and Sophia Santacroce made 21 assists with 12 digs.
Oneonta is back on Sept. 6 to continue the Skidmore Classic with matches against Nichols (10 a.m.) and Williams (12 p.m.).
