Red Dragons Sweep Broncos in Non-Conference Action

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team earned its fifth-straight win on Wednesday evening, defeating Delhi 3-0 in Dewar Arena. The Red Dragons move to 5-0, while the Broncos fall to 0-3.

After going 3-3 in the first set, Delhi used a 5-0 run with two aces from Noelle Placanica to take an 8-3 lead. Oneonta took some time to find its rhythm and cut the lead to three following a kill from junior Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford). Sophomore Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) knocked in a kill to make it 14-12, but the Broncos pulled ahead 16-13 following a kill from Kayla Nuss.

The Red Dragons rattled off a 5-0 span with kills from senior Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) and junior Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac). Two aces from Senior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior) pushed Oneonta up 23-18, and final kills from Moller and Welsh took the first set 25-19.

Oneonta cruised to a 25-13 second-set victory. Two aces from McCabe put the Red Dragons ahead 9-3, and a Landversicht kill followed by an ace from Lillian Slattery (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made it 12-4. The Red Dragons jumped ahead 23-12, and a final Landversicht kill put Oneonta up 2-0.

The Red Dragons closed out the third set 25-10. Delhi took a 6-5 lead, and Oneonta responded with an 11-0 run with three Slattery aces. Oneonta used a 6-0 span to go up 24-9, and Welsh sent in the match-winning kill to complete the sweep.

Welsh led the team with nine kills, and Landversicht had seven with two blocks. McCabe had four kills with five digs. Slattery recorded four aces and six digs, while Moller grabbed 15 digs. Freshman Layla Pertchik (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) led the team with 18 assists.
