LOUISVILLE, KY - Â Recent Oneonta men's lacrosse graduate Stephen Barikyan (Tappan, N.Y/Tappan Zee) earned Division III United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American recognition on Monday. He becomes the second Red Dragon in program history to receive the honor, joining John Pufky '99.
Barikyan was an All-SUNYAC First Team selection as Oneonta's starting face-off specialist. Barikyan led the league overall and in conference play in face-offs won and ground balls collected. This season, the senior appeared in 18 games for the team, won 266 out of 442 face-offs for a .602 winning percentage, and scooped up 149 ground balls. Against SUNYAC opponents, he took 122 out of 186 face-offs, a .656 winning percentage, and grabbed 68 ground balls. Barikyan broke a few program records this year, including most face-offs won in a single game (25 vs. Canton) and single season (266) and ground balls collected in a game (17 vs. Canton) and in a season (149). He finished his career as the second Red Dragon in program history to win at least 500 face-offs, joining Jim van de Veerdonk '13.
Academically, Barikyan was named to the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and was College Sports Communicators Academic All-District. Barikyan graduated with a 3.70 in business administration
