ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's lacrosse team will travel to Oswego to take on the Lakers on Wednesday, April 30, in the SUNYAC Semifinals at 3 pm. The Red Dragons finished the regular season 8-9 overall and 5-2 in the SUNYAC to secure the three seed in the conference tournament, while the Lakers went 6-1 in conference play for the two seed.

Ticket Information: General admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-12. Children age four and under, as well as SUNYAC students with a valid ID, will be admitted free of charge.

Previous Meeting: The last time these two teams met was on April 9 where the Lakers won 11-10 on their home turf. Oneonta held a four-goal lead entering the fourth quarter then Oswego scored five unanswered. Sophomore Thomas Hnis (Smithtown, N.Y./Kings Park) co-led the game with five points off three goals and two assists. Oswego's Correy O'Connor also had three goals with two assists.

Just the Numbers: The Red Dragons are an explosive offense that finished second in the regular season conference play in goals (117 total, 16.71 per game) and in man-up goals (14 total, 51.9 percent). The Lakers against SUNYAC opponents were fourth in both goals scored (87 total, 12.43 per game) and extra man goals (11 total, 31.4 percent).

The offense is powered through junior Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling), Hnis and graduate student Matthew Krieg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue). O'Neil leads the conference overall with 92 points, 46 assists and is third with 46 goals. Hnis leads the SUNYAC with 56 goals and is second with 78 points, while tied for fifth with 22 assists. In conference play alone, Hnis leads the league in points (41) and goals (26), while O'Neil is first in assists (17) and second in points (39). Krieg finished the regular season with 52 points, the sixth most in the SUNYAC, and was second in the conference with 32 assists. In the team's last contest against Oswego, Krieg tallied a goal with three assists.

Gaining possession for the Red Dragons offense is senior faceoff specialist Stephen Barikyan (Tappan/Tappan Zee). Braikyan leads the conference with 242 faceoffs won (for a .616 winning percentage) and 136 ground balls. Along with his success at faceoff, Barikyan recorded four goals and an assist for the team. In their match against Oswego, he went 14-for-24 and had the game-high seven ground balls.

Some other key offensive contributors are seniors Anthony Munro (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), Vincent Tirino (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue), and Vincent Herbstman (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue). Munro is third on the team with 23 goals, tied for the 13th most in the conference, and is fourth for the Red Dragons with 27 points. He has had eight games this season with at least two goals. Tirino is fourth on the team with 14 assists and has totaled seven goals for 21 points. He has recorded at least one point in the past six games, and 12 of the last 13 games. Herbstman is fifth on the team with 15 goals and has totaled three assists for 18 points. He has had four multiple goal games and has recorded a point in five of the past six games.

The Red Dragons defensively finished the regular season, and league play, ranked second in goals against average and caused turnovers. In conference play alone, they limited opponents to 9.86 goals per game, while they caused 66 turnovers (9.43 per game). Oswego was third in goals against average (9.96) and tied for sixth in caused turnovers (7.43 per game).

Senior Matthew Mangels (St. James/Smithtown East) led the Red Dragon defenders with 24 caused turnovers, which is tied for fifth most in the SUNYAC, and collected 43 ground balls. Junior Aidan Greene (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) caused 23 total turnovers (12 were in conference play which was the third best) and he grabbed 59 ground balls on the season which was the most by a non-faceoff specialist in the SUNYAC. Both Mangels and Greene have found the back of the net twice. Sophomore David Trahan (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) was third on the team with 16 caused turnovers and totaled 20 ground balls.

Between the pipes for Oneonta is freshman Mark Restivo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun). Restivo has recorded 199 saves this season, the most in the SUNYAC, for a .531 save percentage and has allowed 12.27 average goals against him. In conference play, he had the fourth most saves among goalies (72) and held a .545 save percentage while allowing 10.67 goals per game.

A few other defensive forces are graduate student Andrew Guinto (Syracuse/West Genesee), freshman Hunter Busch (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon), and sophomore Johnny Terrana (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East). Guinto caused 15 turnovers for the team and scooped up 25 ground balls. He also contributed offensively with three goals and five assists. Busch played in only 13 games and caused 11 turnovers while he brought in 25 ground balls. Terrana caused 10 turnovers, collected 24 ground balls, and, offensively, recorded two goals and an assist.

A Little About the Opponent: Oswego is led by O'Connor, Emmett Starowizc and Garrett Elston. O'Connor has totaled 40 goals and seven assists, Starowizc has 14 goals with 22 assists, and Elston has 22 goals and 13 assists. Jackson Cummings leads the Lakers with 16 caused turnovers and has totaled 30 ground balls. Logan Prescott is their main faceoff specialist and has won 193 faceoffs for a .668 win percentage and collected 105 ground balls. Seamus Hand is the keeper for the Lakers who has a .524 save percentage in conference play and allowed 9.85 goals per game.

What's on the Line: The winner of the semifinals will face the winner of the other SUNYAC semifinal matchup between the conference's top-seed Cortland and fourth seed Potsdam on Saturday, May 4, at 1 pm. Location of the championship will be determined based on the highest remaining seed.
