FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- In a close non-conference matchup, the Oneonta men's tennis team dropped to Farmingdale, 4-3, Saturday afternoon. Oneonta earned the doubles point for an early lead, however Farmingdale got four of the six singles courts for the match. The Red Dragons moved to 6-6 on the season while the Rams improved to 4-2 overall.
Sophomore
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) and junior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) defeated Alan Sabovic and Ryan Hendel, 7-5, on the No. 1 court and improved to 7-4 as a duo this season. Freshmen
Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery) and
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) secured the doubles point after an intense battle on the No. 2 court against Ty Williams and Kwaku Agyeman. The teams went back and forth with one another and forced a tiebreaker where Pitaleff and Ritterman took the match for a 7-6 (8-6) victory and improved to 6-4 as a pair.
The Red Dragons won courts two and four in singles play. Schmid beat Zakaria Ahmed in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and improved to 5-2 on court No. 2 this season. Pitaleff outlasted Muhammad Sawar on the No. 4 for a split set win, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, and sits at 4-6 in singles play this season.
Oneonta is back in action on Thursday, April 3, for a road match against Union at 4 pm.
