ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's tennis team fell in a pair of non-conference matches to Union and Rochester last week. The Red Dragons dropped to the Garnet Chargers, 6-1, then to the Yellowjackets, 7-0, to move to 2-8 this spring season and 6-8 overall.

Union swept all three doubles courts for the doubles point. Junior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) and sophomore
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) came up short on the No. 1 court to Jesus Sosa and Austin Gregory, 6-3. Freshmen
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and
Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery) were bested in a close match on the No. 2 court against Arhan Gupta and Seth Prusko, 6-4. Sophomore
Seth Cheung (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and freshman
Ryan Geller (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) fell to Christian Crowder and Shreyas Kode on court No. 3, 6-2.
Chippari gained Oneonta's team point with a straight set victory on the No. 2 singles court over Ben Jacobs. The sophomore battled Jacobs in the first set and earned the win a tiebreaker, then he outplayed the Garnet Charger in the second set for a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win.
Schmid had an intense match on the No. 1 court against David Wang. Schmid came up shy in the first set, then dropped a tiebreaker in the second set as Wang took the match, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Geller was defeated by Prusko on the No. 5 court, 6-4, 6-3, while junior
Nate Inzerillo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) fell to Crowder on the No. 6 court, 6-2, 6-1.
Oneonta 0, Rochester 7
Rochester came away with all three doubles matches for the point. Cheung and Geller had the closest match on the No. 3 court, but fell in the end to Liam Rieger and Andy Liu, 7-5. Schmid and Chippari dropped the No. 1 court to Surya Rajamani and Alan Wang, 6-2, while Pitaleff and Ritterman fell to Krish Vennam and Ahaan Malhotra on the No. 2 court, 6-1.
Chippari was bested by Vennam on the No. 1 court in singles play, 6-4, 6-1, and Schmid was tripped up by Wang on the No. 2 court, 6-3, 6-2. Ritterman dropped a pair of sets to Liu on the No. 3 court, 6-1, 6-0, and Geller was defeated on the No. 4 court by Kavin Shukla, 6-0, 6-2. Pitaleff won a couple games against Ethan Samora on the No. 5 court, but Samora took the match, 6-1, 6-2, and junior
Braden Greenberg (Northport, N.Y./Northport) fell in straight sets to Joseph Xia on the No. 6 court, 6-1, 6-0.
The Red Dragons are back in action on Saturday, April 12, for a non-conference road game against Hamilton at 4 pm.
