GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's tennis team fell in a tough battle to No. 33 Hobart college on the road, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons dropped to 4-3 overall and the Statesmen improved to 1-0 on the season.
Oneonta came up short in all three doubles matches as Hobart earned the doubles' point. Sophomore
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) and freshman
Ryan Geller (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) were tripped up by Troy Steiner and Nick Grosso on the No. 2 court, 6-2. Junior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) and
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) were bested on the No. 1 court by Hyat Oyer and Rahul Vallabhajosula, 6-0.
Chippari battled Oyer on the No. 1 singles court, but Oyer took the match, 6-3, 6-4. Ritterman came up short on the No. 3 court to Vallabhajosula, 6-4, 6-3, and Schmid dropped to Grosso on the No. 2 court, 6-1, 6-2. Geller, sophomore
Seth Cheung (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and junior
Braden Greenberg (Northport, N.Y./Northport) fell in straight sets on the final three courts.
The Red Dragons begin their spring break in Virginia on Monday, March 10, at Randolph-Macon at 4 pm. The team will travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for three matches starting with Pfeiffer on Wednesday at 8:30 am.
