GLASSBORO, NJ. -- The Oneonta softball team fell in both games of their doubleheader at #3 Rowan University, Wednesday afternoon. Rowan took game one, 4-0, then game two, 7-2. The Red Dragons moved to 2-2 on the season as the Profs started their campaign 2-0.
Game 1: Oneonta 0, Rowan 4
Rowan scored a run in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings. McKenzie Melvin went 2-for-2 with three RBI for the Profs. Sophomore
Ava Thys (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson Secondary (Va.)) went 1-for-3 and recorded the only hit for Oneonta with a single in the seventh inning. Senior
Julia Serena (White Plains, N.Y./Valhalla) reached base twice with a pair of walks.
Rylee Lutz (1-0) got the win after pitching a complete game with nine strikeouts and one hit allowed. Senior
Cadence Brennan (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) (0-1) pitched the complete game for the Red Dragons, struck out one and allowed four runs on eight hits.
Game 2: Oneonta 2, Rowan 7
Rowan got out to a 3-0 lead in game two after the third inning. Oneonta got their first run on the board in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1. After Thys led the inning off with a single up the middle, junior
Jaime Cardello (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) brought her home with a double to right center. Rowan made it a three-run game again in the bottom half of the inning off a double.
The Red Dragons added their second run of the game in the fifth inning when Serena singled to right field and scored freshman
Sophia Camacho (Newburgh, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes). The Profs recorded their final three runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Emily McCutcheon (1-0) received the win after she went 6.0 innings with two strikeouts and allowed two runs on five hits. Sophomore
Emily Brown (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) (0-1) pitched 5.1 innings, struck out six, and allowed seven runs, four earned, on nine hits. Freshman
Tanner Smith (White Plains, N.Y./Vahalla) recorded the final two outs in the circle for the Red Dragons.
Cardello and Serena each recorded a hit and an RBI in game two. Juniors
Cailin Hall (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot),
Abigail Silliman (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia), and Thys all went 1-for-3.
Oneonta's next slate of games will take place in Hawaii from March 11-15. The Red Dragons kickoff the trip with a doubleheader against Messiah University starting at 3:00 pm EST.
