Megan LaMont Hired as Oneonta Softball Coach

Megan LaMont Appointed Oneonta Head Softball Coach

ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Oneonta Director of Athletics Ryan Hoopers is pleased to announce the hiring of Megan LaMont as the next head coach of the Oneonta softball team. LaMont joins the Red Dragons after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Cortland.

"SUNY Oneonta Athletics is excited to announce the addition of Megan LaMont as our Head Softball Coach," said Hooper. "Megan has a wealth of experience and success that she brings with her. She has a deep passion for the sport and a commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the field. She also has a strong connection with the SUNYAC, having coached within the conference for several years. We're confident that Coach LaMont will be a tremendous asset for our programs and an outstanding representative of our athletic department."

LaMont joins Oneonta after serving as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland from 2023-26, where she played an integral role in all aspects of the nationally competitive Red Dragons program. During her time at Cortland, she assisted with practice planning, player development, recruiting, scouting, game preparation, fundraising, community engagement, and team operations while helping cultivate a positive, student-athlete-centered culture.

"I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to become the next head coach at SUNY Oneonta," said LaMont. "This is a special opportunity, and I'm excited to get to know our student-athletes, build a strong team culture, and help them grow both on and off the field. I can't wait to get to campus, get to work, and be part of the Oneonta community."

At Cortland, LaMont designed position-specific training programs with an emphasis on outfield development while conducting individual and small-group instructional sessions to help student-athletes reach their full potential. She also assisted with opponent scouting and game preparation, while supporting recruiting efforts through player evaluations, communication with prospective student-athletes and their families, and coordinating campus visits.

In addition to her on-field responsibilities, LaMont coordinated fundraising initiatives, organized community engagement opportunities, assisted with team travel logistics, and collaborated with the coaching staff on leadership development and program operations.

LaMont earned her bachelor's degree in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland in December 2023 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Recreation Management and Leisure Services, with an anticipated graduation in May 2027.
