BUFFALO, N.Y. - Junior Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago) broke a 12-year-old school record in the 100-yard backstroke to earn the individual title at the 2025 SUNYAC-AMCC Championships on Friday evening at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center.
Oneonta sits fifth overall with 275 points, while Cortland is first with 567 points.
Tyrrell swam a 50.94 in the prelims and then posted a 50.76 in the finals to secure the gold medal. Alex Miller set the previous record in 2013 at 50.90.
Also in the 100-yard backstroke was senior Maddox Aramini (Cooperstown, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield), taking 11th at 55.89, and senior Joseph Campise (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep), touching 13th at 56.32.
Senior James Llewellyn (Great River, NY/East Islip) earned his second medal of the week in the 200-yard freestyle. He swam a 1:43.84 to finish second overall and earn All-SUNYAC Second Team honors.
Junior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) took eighth in the 100-yard butterfly at 53.03.
Sophomore Andrew Capella (Glenville, NY/Burnt-Hills-Ballston Lake) posted a 4:27.20 to grab ninth in the 400-yard IM, while freshman Luke Goodspeed (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) placed 11th at 4:33.29.
Oneonta 400-yard medley relay placed fourth. Tyrrell, Goodspeed, Llewellyn, and Hitzschke touched at 3:34.21.
The Red Dragons conclude the SUNYAC-AMCC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 22, with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
