BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's basketball team came away with a SUNYAC sweep this week as they defeated Buffalo St., 68-55, on the road Saturday afternoon. The game was tied at 45 heading into the fourth quarter where Oneonta outscored Buffalo St. 23-10 for the victory. The Red Dragons improved to 10-10 overall, 7-6 in the SUNYAC, and the Bengals dropped to 5-14 on the season and 2-10 in conference play.

Emma Schwarzbeck (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill Senior High School) and
Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) co-led the game with 16 points, Zuntag also pulled in 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, while Schwarzbeck had two steals and a block. Sophomore
Megan Desrats (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) recorded 14 points, five assists and three steals, and senior
Nadia Brown (Troy, NY/Troy) finished with 12 points and six assists.
After both teams traded baskets, Brown and Desrats powered a 7-0 run to put the Red Dragons up 11-5 at 5:29. Buffalo State closed the deficit, but a jump shot from senior
Molly Coyne (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) kept Oneonta ahead 15-13 at the end of the first.
Midway through the second Brown found Zuntag driving to the lane for the bucket then Brown hit a pair at the line for a seven-point lead, however the Bengals scored eight unanswered to go up 28-27 with 1:05 left in the half. Schwarzbeck regained the edge with a layup, but Ashley Tucker answered on the other side to put Buffalo St ahead at the break, 30-29.
The Bengals held onto the slim lead until Derats drained a trey at the top of the arc at 6:14 to go up 36-34. Senior
Sophia Wakin (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) put Oneonta up five on a second chance basket, then Buffalo St had a 9-2 stretch to regain a 45-43 advantage. The game was tied in the closing seconds when Desrats recovered an offensive rebound and dished it to Zuntag down low for the bucket.
Buffalo St. scored the opening points in the final quarter, then Oneonta went on a 11-0 run to go up 56-47 with 4:43 to play. Schwarzbeck scored five points during the stretch, Brown had a layup and a free throw, and sophomore
Carlie Young (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville Central) hit a corner three. The Red Dragons increased their lead to double digits with a jumper from Zuntag and held on to the win with a few trips to the free throw line.
Oneonta shot 40.0 percent from the floor, held a 34-28 rebounding advantage, and had a 12-6 edge in second chance points. Buffalo St shot 43.1 percent from the field as a team and had four players score double digits, Morgan Popp led with 14 points.
The Red Dragons are back in action on Friday, February 7, for a SUNYAC game against Potsdam at 5:30 pm in Dewar Arena.
