PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Oneonta women's soccer fell 2-0 at Plattsburgh on Wednesday for its first SUNYAC loss of the season. The Red Dragons fall to 2-5-3 overall and 0-1-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Cardinals move to 6-6-0 and 3-1-0 in the conference.
The first half remained even with shots tied 10-10. Plattsburgh goalkeeper Desiree DuBois stopped attempts from freshman Violet Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) and senior Tara Nicholson (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) to keep the game scoreless. The Cardinals broke through near the end of the half when Sydney Myers scored in the 39th minute to make it 1-0.
Oneonta opened the second with junior Caroline Schimitsch (Little Neck, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) firing on goal at 53:08. DuBois made the save, and the Cardinals responded in the 58th minute with a goal from Leah Warren.
Senior goalkeeper Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) stopped shots in the 65th and 72nd minutes. The Red Dragons took two shots from Schimitsch in the final five minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Meehan made five saves in the loss, while DuBois had seven in the shutout victory.
Plattsburgh outshot Oneonta 18-13 and held a 7-4 corner kick advantage.
Oneonta is back home to host Fredonia on Saturday, October 11 at 1 p.m.
