ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's soccer team scored twice, but Fredonia came out with the 4-2 win on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons fall to 2-6-3 and 0-2-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Blue Devils move to 6-4-3 and 3-1-1 in the conference.
Fredonia scored in the third minute on their first shot, with Bronwyn Madden scoring on a pass from Irwin Gabrielle to take the early 1-0 lead. Senior goalie Bryanna stopped shots from Gabrielle and Kacey Mosher in the eighth minute to keep it a one-goal game. Oneonta tied in the 27th minute when senior Karsyn Kondracki (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) found the back of the net off a pass from junior Emma Parente (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East).
The Blue Devils added two goals in the final five minutes of the half, with Grace Mackey scoring at 40:08 and Irwin netting a brace at 42:19.
Fredonia pushed the lead to 4-1 after Anna Ratchuk found the back of the net in the 80th minute. Freshman Violet Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) struck the crossbar at 81:36, and senior Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) scored at 86:02 to make it 4-2. Mattoni had one final attempt at 87:30 that Fredonia's Casey Fetzner saved.
Meehan finished with four saves, while Fetzner had five.
Oneonta next travels to Buffalo State on Wednesday, October 15 at 4 p.m.
