ONEONTA, N.Y. - Freshman Lily Martin (Fishkill, NY/John Jay) netted her first-career goal in the final ten minutes to help the Oneonta women's soccer team secure a 1-1 draw with Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons are unbeaten in their past eight games and move to 6-3-4 overall and 3-0-3 in the SUNYAC. The Bengals move to 5-8-2 and 3-1-2 in the conference.
Oneonta dominated in shots, holding a 16-4 first-half advantage, but couldn't connect. Buffalo State goalkeeper Addy Williams saved shots from seniors Dominique DiOrio (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) and Caroline Schimitsch (Little Neck, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) in the opening minutes, then turned away attempts from sophomore Violet Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) and senior Katie Doherty (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place). The Bengals had a late 40th-minute attempt from Lilly Jaroszewski, but the junior goalie stopped the breakaway. Junior Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) struck the crossbar, then took a final shot that Williams saved to keep it scoreless at halftime.
Buffalo State scored early in the second when Riley Stevenson found Makenzie Below for an open shot to make it 1-0 at 52:00. Oneonta continued to rattle off shots in the half, but could not find the back of the net until the 81st minute. Senior Brenna Mast (Croghan, NY/Beaver River) passed to Martin on the corner, who chipped the shot into the net to tie 1-1. Kealey took one more shot that Williams stopped at 83:04.
Hardison finished with three saves, while Williams made 13.
The Red Dragons finished the game outshooting the Bengals 32-5 and held a slight 5-4 corner kick advantage.
Oneonta next hosts Delhi for its Morgan's Message Game on Wednesday, October 21, at 3 p.m.
