POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's soccer team moved to a five-game unbeaten streak following a 3-0 win at Potsdam on Wednesday afternoon. Three different Red Dragons found the back of the net as Oneonta goes to 5-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the SUNYAC. Potsdam falls to 4-6-2 and 2-2-0 in the conference.
Oneonta scored on its second shot in the fourth minute. Sophomore Violet Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) crossed the ball to senior Brenna Mast (Croghan, NY/Beaver River) at the top center of the box. Mast took a high, arching shot into the top left corner of the net, just out of reach of the Bears' goalkeeper.
Potsdam tried to respond soon after with Adrianna Orlando striking the bottom right, but junior goalkeeper Emily Hardison (Coram, NY/Longwood) made the save. V. Mattoni rattled off four shots within ten minutes to keep the Potsdam defense grounded, but the score held until halftime.
In the second half, V. Mattoni took the ball from the midfield and sprinted past an initial defender into the attacking zone. She juked through two more Bears players and took a shot from the top corner into the bottom left of the Potsdam goal to make it 2-0 at 63:09. Oneonta scored again in the final five minutes when junior Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) picked up senior Gianna Hanner (Ridge, NY/Longwood) on a long pass. Hanner was wide open and connected for the easy goal.
As a team, Oneonta outshot Potsdam 30-6 and held an 8-2 corner kick advantage.
Hardison made three saves in the shutout victory. Potsdam's Caroline Vine recorded nine saves.
Oneonta next travels to face Fredonia on Saturday, October 10 at 1 p.m.
